Terms of use
Krypton is a closed space for people who actually know each other. These terms are an agreement between Fantagram, Inc., which operates Krypton (“we”), and the members who use Krypton. How we handle personal data is set out separately in our privacy policy.
1Joining — by invitation only
- You can join Krypton only by invitation. A member who knows you gives you their invite link (or shows its QR code); you ask to join through it, and you join once that member confirms that they know you. Each member can let in a limited number of people every 30 days (5, or 50 with Krypton+).
- The member who let you in is your first Backer. Your second Backer is the first person other than them you become fam with. From the 1,001st member on, someone who joins through an invite link is a new neighbor until their second Backer is filled, and until then some features — such as inviting others and passing posts to fam — aren’t available. People who joined before that, and people let in by the founder or the Krypton team, are full members from the start.
- Ask the Krypton team — if you don’t know any members, you can ask the Krypton team, but only in the early days of the service, until membership reaches a number we set. The team reads the name and introduction in your request and decides whether to accept. If the team accepts, its confirmation alone makes you a full member, and the Krypton team stands as your Backer. The team doesn’t become anyone’s fam.
- Your Backers appear on your card, proven by signatures your devices exchange. Our servers don’t keep a record of who brought whom in, except for people the Krypton team lets in (privacy policy, section 2).
- A Backer is someone who confirmed they know you. Being a Backer doesn’t, by itself, make anyone legally or financially responsible for what you do. Backers remain responsible for their own actions.
- You must be at least 18 to join. By creating an account, you promise that you are 18 or older. Members who invite people or accept requests must not bring in anyone under 18. One person, one account.
- By creating an account and using Krypton, you agree to these terms. These terms and the privacy policy are always available at krypton.today, and Settings in the app links to them too.
- Don’t buy or sell invitations or invite people in exchange for payment.
2Your account and keys
- Your account is created with a key on your device, not a phone number or email. Keeping that device safe is up to you.
- When you install the app, an account waiting to join is created first. Until you join, you can’t do anything except ask to join. A waiting account that hasn’t joined within 30 days is deleted.
- To get your account back if you lose your phone, you need your recovery phrase — 18 words the app shows you once when you sign up, for you to write on paper — and your PIN. We don’t keep the phrase and can’t show it to you again. If you lose your phrase and every device with your account, neither you nor we can restore your account. While you still have your device, you can make a new phrase in Settings; the old one then stops working.
- Recovery takes 48 hours. During that time all your devices get an alert that can’t be turned off, and you can cancel from your old device. Anyone with your phrase and PIN can take over your account this way, so keep the phrase to yourself and don’t give it to anyone — we will never ask for it.
3The service
On Krypton you can post writing, photos and videos to your fam, reply to posts, pass a post you’ve read to someone in your fam, and introduce two people who should know each other. Posts and replies are sealed on your device as they travel.
- Who sees a post — for each post you choose all your fam, people you pick from your fam (Choose), or Only me. A post goes beyond your fam only when a recipient passes it to someone in their own fam (section 5).
- Disappearing posts — if the author chooses, the post and its chats and photos are deleted from our servers 24 hours later. Photos and videos a recipient has already saved to their photo library remain.
- Keeping your posts — your app renews what you’ve written on our servers in the background while you use it. If no device of yours renews it for 180 days — for example, because you lose your phone and don’t recover your account — your posts, notes and photos are deleted from our servers. Because renewal happens gradually, if you don’t open Krypton for more than about 90 days, some of them may start to be deleted.
- Close chat — authors can close their post to new chats, or open it again.
- Adding fam in person — members who meet in person can scan My QR to ask to become fam; they become fam only when the person who showed the QR taps Add to fam.
- Fam links — a fam link you send works once, within 24 hours: the first member who opens it becomes your fam without you confirming. Send it only to the person you mean. You’re told who joined, and you can remove them.
- Past posts for new fam — when someone new joins your fam, your posts for your fam from the last 30 days (up to 100) also become visible to them. You can turn this off with “Show my past posts” in Settings.
- There’s no limit on how many people can be in your fam. All ways of communicating (posts, chats, hearts, passing posts to fam, choosing who sees a post, disappearing posts, adding fam, adding fam in person, notifications) and safety features (sealing, blocking, reporting, screenshot alerts, account recovery) are free. Krypton+ adds a few more features (section 7).
- We don’t show ads. We don’t take or give money for adding fam or for introductions.
- We may improve and change the service (section 8).
4What not to do
These match the reasons for reporting. We have zero tolerance for this content and behavior.
- Spam or ads
- Unwanted advertising, repeated content, automated bulk sending
- Abuse or harassment
- Insults, threats, bullying, hate speech, stalking
- Sexual content
-
Sexual content, unwanted sexual messages.
Content that sexualizes children or minors is prohibited without exception. When confirmed, we remove it at once and close the account. As the law requires, we report it to the U.S. National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to other relevant authorities, such as law enforcement in the country concerned, and keep the related records for the period the law requires.
Sexual photos or videos taken or shared without the consent of the person shown (including synthetic images and deepfakes) are also prohibited. If that person or their representative asks us at support@krypton.today, with material that identifies the post, we remove it or make it unavailable within 48 hours (section 6).
- Illegal content
- Anything that breaks the law, illegal trade, content that infringes others’ copyright, likeness or reputation
- Impersonation
- Pretending to be another person or organization, joining under someone else’s name
- Other
- Sharing others’ personal information without permission · automatically collecting cards or posts (scraping) · hacking or disrupting the service · creating accounts automatically, or abusing invite links or requests to the Krypton team · running a paid business of connecting or introducing people · buying or selling invitations · abusing reports
Introductions between members are something members do themselves; Krypton doesn’t act as a broker. Members are responsible for following the laws that apply to their own profession — for example, medical and legal-profession laws that forbid taking payment for referring or brokering patients or cases, and professional advertising rules.
5Rights in your content
- You own the writing, photos and videos you post.
- You give us a free, non-exclusive permission to use the content you post only as far as needed to store and copy it in sealed form (including backups), deliver it to the people you choose (and, while you leave it on, to new fam — section 3) and to the fam a recipient passes it to, show your card to the members you choose (your fam, or every member if you choose Everyone), and handle reports. The same permission, within the same limits, extends to the companies that do this work for us (privacy policy, section 10). The permission ends when you delete the content or your account. However, anything already delivered to others, copies that remain in backups for up to 7 days, report copies, and anything the law requires us to keep remain for that period.
- We can’t read sealed content, and we don’t use it for promotion, advertising or training. The exception is when someone reports it and opens it to us (section 6).
- Recipients can read your post and pass it to their own fam (except posts set to Only me, posts sent to people you chose, and scheduled posts before their time). Posts and photos already sent can’t be recalled.
- Recipients who are Krypton+ members can save photos and videos to their device’s photo library. For feed posts, we let the author know. We can’t delete or recall saved copies.
- You are responsible for the content you post.
Reporting infringement
If content infringes copyright, likeness rights or similar rights, the rights holder or their representative can let us know at support@krypton.today. Please include material showing you hold the rights and material that identifies the post (such as a screenshot from a member who received it). If confirmed, we take the post down and let the member who posted it know. That member can ask us to make it visible again by providing material showing they have the rights. Because we can’t read sealed posts, we need material that identifies the post to find it.
6Reporting, blocking and restrictions
- Report — report a post or reply from ⋯ or a long press, and a person from ⋯ at the top right of their page. When you report, your device opens that post or card to us. The only posts and cards we see are those that are reported.
- Block — that person’s posts, replies and fam requests no longer reach you, and your new posts aren’t sent to them directly — though someone who is fam to you both could still pass one of your posts to them. If you were fam, the fam tie is removed. They aren’t told.
- Action — if we find a breach of these terms, we take one of the following, depending on how serious it is: removing the post, suspending the account (for a set period or until lifted), or closing the account. While suspended, you can’t use the app’s features; once lifted, everything comes back as it was. When we act, we’ll tell you the reason and what we did. Until in-app notices are ready, a member who has been acted against can ask support@krypton.today and we’ll reply with the reason and details. In urgent cases — such as child sexual abuse material or non-consensual intimate images, threats to someone’s life or safety, or clear violations of the law — we act first. We report to the relevant authorities when the law requires it, or when there is an imminent risk to someone’s life or safety, and only as far as needed (privacy policy, section 9).
- Requests to remove infringing posts — anyone whose privacy, reputation or other rights are infringed by a member’s post (members or not) can request removal by sending details of the infringement and material that identifies the post to support@krypton.today. If the infringement is clear, we take the post down without delay. If it’s hard to judge whether it is infringing, or a dispute is likely, we make it unavailable for up to 30 days (a temporary measure) and let both the requester and the author know. The author can object and ask for it to be made visible again.
- Appeals — if you disagree with an action, let us know at support@krypton.today within 30 days of being notified. We’ll look at it again and tell you the result.
We aim to review reports within 24 hours.
7Krypton+ (paid tier)
Krypton+ is Krypton’s paid tier. It adds up to 10 photos per post, videos up to 5 minutes and 500 MB, photos in original quality (including zooming in full view), saving photos and videos to your photo library, and scheduled posts. The current features are shown on the Krypton+ screen in the app, and the detailed limits are as shown in the app.
Products and prices
- There are two Krypton+ products. The yearly subscription renews automatically every year until you cancel. The lifetime pass is a one-time, non-consumable purchase: it doesn’t renew and doesn’t expire.
- The price is the amount shown in the app and the store, in your local currency, before you buy.
- There is no free trial.
Payment, renewal and cancellation
- On iPhone, you pay through the Apple App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase. Payment in the Android app is still being prepared, so you can’t buy Krypton+ on Android until then; once it opens, you’ll pay through Google Play.
- The yearly subscription renews automatically every year until you cancel. The next period is charged within the 24 hours before the current period ends (on Google Play, its policy applies). To stop renewal, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can cancel at any time in your device’s subscription settings or with [Manage subscription] in Krypton’s Settings. After you cancel, you keep Krypton+ until the end of the period you’ve paid for. The lifetime pass isn’t a subscription, so there’s nothing to cancel.
- If you reinstall the app or change devices, use [Restore purchases] on the Krypton+ screen.
Withdrawal and refunds
Krypton+ is a digital product you can use as soon as payment is complete. You can withdraw within 7 days of buying, but under Korea’s Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, withdrawal may be limited for the part you have already used. For products that can be divided by time, such as a yearly subscription, you can withdraw for the period not yet provided. In addition, if Krypton+ differs from how it was described or advertised, or from the contract, you can withdraw within 3 months of receiving it, or within 30 days of when you learned of the difference.
Refunds are requested from the store that processed the payment (Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com; Google Play: Google Play’s refund policy). We can’t refund store payments directly, but if you have a reason for withdrawal under the law, let us know at support@krypton.today. We’ll help with what the store needs to confirm the refund. Where the law gives a right of withdrawal, such as in the EU or UK, that law and the store’s policy apply.
If a purchase is refunded, the Krypton+ from that purchase ends and that period is removed from your Krypton+ time. The same applies to the lifetime pass: if the store refunds it, the Krypton+ from that pass ends right away. Whether and when a refund is possible follows the policy of the store that took the payment (Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com) and applicable law.
Price changes
If we raise a subscription price, we’ll tell you in the app at least 30 days in advance and ask for your consent where the store’s policy or the law requires. If you don’t consent to an increase that needs consent, your subscription ends when the current period ends. You can cancel at any time if you don’t want it.
The lifetime pass and your account
- The lifetime pass can be used for the Krypton account that bought it, for as long as that account exists and Krypton operates the service. It isn’t a promise for a person’s lifetime.
- A Krypton+ purchase applies only to the one Krypton account it was first confirmed for. It can’t be moved to or restored on another Krypton account, or shared through Family Sharing. If you open the same account on a new device through Recovery, Krypton+ carries on.
- If you delete your account, any remaining time (including a lifetime pass) is lost and can’t be restored. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an auto-renewing store subscription, so cancel it in the store first.
When it ends
When your subscription ends or is refunded, you go back to the free limits. Your existing fam ties aren’t removed, and posts, photos and videos you’ve already shared aren’t deleted. Posts you’ve already scheduled still go out at their scheduled time. You can bring one forward with Send now, but changing the time needs Krypton+.
Krypton+ we give
We may give Krypton+ time free of charge to some members, such as staff and testers, and may take back the time we gave. Taking it back doesn’t affect any time a member bought.
8Changes to the service
We may add, change or remove features to fix and improve the service, or when the law, security or operations require it. We’ll tell you in the app 30 days in advance of significant changes or of shutting the whole service down. We’ll also give 30 days’ notice before removing or reducing a major Krypton+ feature, and you can cancel if you don’t want it.
If we shut the whole service down, we’ll stop new purchases and auto-renewals from the day we announce it. Refunds for remaining subscription time and lifetime passes follow the applicable law and the store’s policy; we’ll explain how in the shutdown notice and help with the store’s refund process. Before shutting down, we’ll leave time for members to review the content on their own devices.
9Leaving
- You can leave at any time with Delete account in Settings. This can only be done on a device that has your account key. If you haven’t finished joining or your account is suspended, Delete account is at the bottom of the screen the app shows you instead. It can’t be undone; what is deleted and what remains is in section 12 of the privacy policy.
- When you delete your account in the app, before it’s deleted your device deletes from our servers everything you wrote — posts, notes, chat lines, photos and files — and tells the people who received them so their apps delete them too. Deleting your account finishes only once this is done.
- If you lose your device, recover your account with your recovery phrase first and then delete it, so that the above can happen. If you don’t, our servers can’t tell which posts are yours, so what you wrote stays as ciphertext we can’t open until it’s deleted automatically, 180 days after a device of yours last renewed it (section 3).
- Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an auto-renewing store subscription. Cancel it first in your device’s subscription settings. Any remaining Krypton+ time (including a lifetime pass) is lost with the account and can’t be restored.
- We may close your account if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms, following the process in section 6. Refunds for any remaining Krypton+ time then follow the applicable law and the store’s policy.
10Limits of our responsibility
- If you suffer loss because of us, we compensate you as the applicable law provides.
- Because of how Krypton is built, there are things we can’t do — restore your account if you lose both your recovery phrase and your devices, recover sealed content, recall posts already sent to others, delete photos or videos a recipient has saved to their photo library (including from disappearing posts), or stop someone photographing a screen with another device.
- Members are responsible for what they share and how they act. We are not a party to any deal or contract between people who met through an introduction.
- We work to keep the service running reliably, but it may stop or have errors because of device, network or equipment failures and similar causes.
- The limits in this section don’t apply to loss caused by our intent or gross negligence, or to loss we can’t reduce or exclude under the law, such as harm to a person’s life or body.
11Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. However, these terms don’t take away the protection that the law of the country where you live gives to consumers (mandatory rules, including those about courts).
If there’s a dispute, please contact us first at support@krypton.today. We’ll try in good faith to resolve it. If we can’t, it will be decided by the court with jurisdiction under Korea’s Civil Procedure Act. You can also use a consumer dispute resolution body in your country (Korea: Korea Consumer Agency 1372 and the Content Dispute Resolution Committee; Japan: Consumer Hotline 188).
12Changes to these terms
We may change these terms when needed, for example when laws or the service change. If we do, we’ll announce what is changing, when it takes effect and why, in the app and on this page 7 days before it takes effect, or 30 days before for changes that are less favorable to you. We’ll tell you about less favorable changes separately with an in-app notice, and at that time we’ll also tell you that if you keep using Krypton without refusing by the effective date, you’ll be treated as agreeing. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account before the effective date (cancel any subscription in the store). Changed terms don’t apply to things that happened before them. We keep past versions available on this page.
This version: v1.2 · announced 2026-10-19 · effective 2026-10-20 (first published 2026-10-03). Until 2026-10-19, v1.1 (effective 2026-10-19) applies; before that, v1.0 (effective 2026-10-03) applied. Each earlier version lists what it changed. This version was published when the service started afresh on 2026-10-19, with no existing members.
Corrected on 2026-10-20: accounts that haven’t finished joining and suspended accounts can also leave in the app (section 9).
What changes from v1.1:
- You join through a member’s invite link, within a 30-day limit; new neighbors; our servers no longer keep a record of who brought whom in (section 1).
- Recovery uses a recovery phrase you write on paper and your PIN. If you lose both the phrase and your devices, your account can’t be restored (sections 2 and 10).
- What you write is kept while your devices renew it; anything not renewed for 180 days is deleted (section 3). Fam links, and up to 100 past posts for new fam (section 3).
- Deleting your account first deletes everything you wrote (section 9).
- Your card is shown to the range you choose, not to all members (section 5).
- Krypton+ has two products: a yearly subscription and a lifetime pass (section 7).
- We now say “pass to fam” instead of “pass along”, and “Block” instead of “Hide”. The meaning hasn’t changed.
- We now say “Backer” instead of “backer”; the Korean and Japanese versions use “Backer” too. The meaning hasn’t changed.
These terms are available in Korean, English and Japanese. If the versions differ in meaning, the English version prevails.
